Apart from traditional Viennese Food – International cuisine instead of Wiener Schnitzel
The traditional Viennese cuisine has many different delicacies to offer, think about the Schweinsbraten or Wiener Schnitzel, good and solid. Or something sweet, like the Kaiserschmarren or Apfelstrudel.
But you may also find so many tasty restaurants with international cuisine, from countries all over the world.
Particularly Asian food is very popular in Austria. An insider’s tip is Tofu und Chili, on Linke Wienzeile, next to the Naschmarkt. Although the furniture inside the eatery is more functional than generous, the food is very delicious and they serve big portions. Therefore the tasteful food levels the small location. Mainly during midday it’s hard to find a free seat, which speaks definitely in the food’s favour.
Tofu und Chili offers sophisticated wok meals with meat, tofu or seafood and with rice and vegetables. Furthermore the noodles are self-made. Also sweet eaters won’t miss desserts like baked bananas or Zongzi.
Another Asian restaurant is Bamboo, which offers its manifold cuisine for a sensational price. There are even three Bamboos located in Vienna.
Their concept is an all-you-can-eat buffet with really a huge range of fresh ingredients, vegetables, meat and fish. You can create your own meal and the cook prepares it in front of you. I can recommend the Happy Hour from 3pm until 5pm, where you pay only 6,90 € for the buffet. But it gets more expensive in the evening and on weekends. Although that, Bamboo is definitely a visit worth.
If you prefer more the cuisine from Vietnam, then you’ll have to visit SAPA. It caters for an enjoyable atmosphere and delicious Vietnamese food in the Lindengasse, near the Mariahilferstrasse.
Beside the fresh prepared food, SAPA persuades with a very comfortable and stylish atmosphere. If the weather is nice, you can enjoy your meal outside or you take a seat on the pillows on the ground.
Who likes Asian food apart from Chinese or Japanese meals, SAPA is the right choice for sure.
Top Indian restaurants, where taste, service and furniture are matched, are quite hard to find in Vienna. But Nam Nam, an Indian restaurant in the Webgasse, offers a simple eatery with an enjoyable atmosphere. The menu includes beside the delicious main dishes also soups, salads and desserts. During midday they offer a special menu.
Due to its new Indian cuisine and its comfortable eatery, I can definitely recommend Nam Nam.
Let’s move up to the North. If you like Scandinavian food, visit SKAEN - ‘köstlich skandinavisch’. You will go there on a culinary trip through Scandinavia. With their slogan ‘Moving Cultures” SKAEN brings the northern art of living to Austria. You can try Scandinavian specialities, like the original Smørrebrød or Danish chocolate, salmon or fish. In the Restaurant is also a shop included.
Enjoy your meal! :)

Cupcakes, Muffins & Friends
The sweet palate is definitely not too short in Vienna. One eatery next to another opens its doors and offers delicious and individual created cupcakes, muffins, cakes and Co. Young and trendy Cafés, confectioneries or snack bars extend the traditional Viennese coffeehouse culture.
Cupcakes became very popular in Vienna, for example due to the opening of the Shop/Café CupCakes in the Josefstädterstrasse. The famous graphic designer Renate Gruber uses her knowledge to create exceptional fancy cakes and of course cupcakes. In doing so, beautiful creations develop, for different occasions like for weddings, birthdays, Christmas or Valentine’s Day. The Shop/Café is lovely furnished and invites to enjoy a cup of coffee with a freshly prepared cupcake!
A little further away in the 18th Viennese district is the 12munchies located. On the menu you can find traditional British and American food, like pies, muffins, cupcakes (again;), brownies, quiches and even self-made bread. But 12muchnies doesn’t offer just sweet food, also spicy meals are in the menu included.
The café is very pretty and individually equipped and you can even sit outside in the small park next to the Aumannplatz.
You’ll find every kind of pie, chicken pie, curry pie, sweet cream pie or sweet fruit pie in the appropriate named eatery the pie factory. If you combine a pie just with apple pie or mainly sweet ones, you will be surprised about the offered menu. The pies are arranged in a showcase and the eatery is lovely and freshly equipped. Located next to the Campus the pie factory is a good opportunity for a snack in between.
No matter, which café you’ll visit, your hunger will be allayed. Every kind of taste, sweet or spicy, will find a very delicious snack. Mmmh, enjoy!
